Easter 2008

The Easter weekend was especially busy in the port of Felixstowe. On Good Friday, port chaplain Sr Marian Davey organised Stations of the Cross in the seafarers' centre. The Stations were led by Canon Michael Hazel and followed by a communion service.

Holy Week 2008

Every year in Holy Week, a group of young Christians makes a pilgrimage to Walsingham. They walk across England bearing a wooden cross, stopping on the way to receive hospitality in churches and community centres. This year, the 60th since the pilgrimage began, they stopped for the first time at Felixstowe Seafarers' Centre.

On behalf of the seafarers' centre, AOS chaplain Sr Marian Davey welcomed the pilgrims. After a prayer service, the pilgrims presented a hand embroidered kneeler to the centre. In turn, Sr Marian gave them a small towel to be presented at the shrine in Walsingham at the their journey's end. The towel recalled the gesture of Veronica in the sixth Station of the Cross when she stepped forward to wipe the face of Jesus.

Sr Marian hoped that the hospitality offered by the seafarers' centre had also provided both physical and spiritual comfort to the pilgrims as they carried their cross to Walsingham.
