Red Mount Chapel, Friday 6 June

Around ten people joined port chaplain Sr Marian Davey for an afternoon prayer service at the historic Red Mount Chapel in King's Lynn. Prior to the Reformation, this unusual eight-sided chapel served pilgrims arriving at King's Lynn en route to Walsingham. Disused for many years, it has recently been refurbished thanks to a lottery grant. AOS hosted the first Catholic service in the chapel since its re-opening.

A replica of the beautiful Stella Maris icon was brought into the Red Mount Chapel for the occasion. The original icon would have been too heavy for the tiny building which can hold a maximum of 14 people. Sr Marian reports that it was a deeply moving experience, the blue of the new stained glass window reflecting the connection of the chapel with the nearby port.

Walsingham, Saturday 7 June

The following day, Sr Marian led a group of twenty people at the AOS annual pilgrimage to the National Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham. The group included supporters who have assisted Sr Marian throughout the year. Richard Withers, AOS port chaplain in south Wales, and some of his volunteers also attended.
